The Real Reason Content Is King
Content is king. You’ve heard that before or seen it on other blogs and sites that talk about advertising. But what does it really mean? Before we jump into that you have to understand what content is. Simply put, it’s anything that your company produces that is seen or heard by a potential consumer. This includes the packaging on your products, your advertisements, your business card, any radio or TV ads you are running, what your website says, any blogs or press release you put out there, videos, ads on social media, any email marketing you do or anything else.
Now that you have a better understanding of what exactly content marketing covers, you can start to see why it is considered the king. It involves everything and will be the main force in driving people to your website or turning them away. The better the quality, the higher your conversion rate will be. For example, when you send out an email marketing campaign you want a great subject line that motivates the recipient to open the message and then you want a clean looking ad that encourages them to engage. You have to give the recipient motivation to open, click and engage. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your ads:
- A good call to action: You have to motivate people to invest their time and eventually their money into your promotion. The best way to do that is with a solid call to action. This can include a variety of things like “Call Today To Learn More, Ask About Our Low Interest Rates, Sign Up Now To Receive A Free Gift.”
- Make it clean: It doesn’t matter if it’s a video, message, business card or landing page, when someone looks at it you want them to see clean and professional work, something that is going to reflect your business in a positive way.
- No confusion of brand: If you are posting an ad on Facebook you may only get a second of the viewers’ attention as they scroll through their newsfeed. Yes, you need to have something that encourages them to look but you also want to be sure that your brand is easy to see. The more they see your company name, the more comfortable they will be with your advertising and eventually start to give you more attention.
- Simple but direct: Everyone concerns themselves with having a “Wow” factor. Don’t fall into that trap. Yes, it’s great to have an ad that’s memorable but you need to be sure that if someone sees your creative, even for just a few seconds, that they are going to understand the message, recognize your brand and be ready to interact if they choose to.
Another important tip is to make sure you keep producing it. Whether it’s sending out an email once every couple of weeks, posting on social media platforms like Facebook every day, adding new blogs to your site or something else, you want to be active. Not only will each new piece create an opportunity to engage past and potential consumers but it also shows that your company is active, giving the viewer more trust in your brand.
Your content marketing strategy, regardless of what platform you are using, needs to be cohesive across the board. You need to make sure that your video ads are similar to your Facebook posts which are similar to the look and feel for your website. Stick with your company colors, keep the same logo and make sure that you are routinely putting new stuff out there each week for people to find.
